Multistate Performance Test (MPT) on the bar exam

The MPT is a closed-universe drafting exercise, not a memory test. Every rule you need is in the Library, and every fact you need is in the File. What is graded is whether you produced the document the task memo asked for.

This makes the MPT the most improvable part of the exam. Points are lost on format, on ignoring the task memo, and on running out of time — all of which are fixable with a repeatable process.

• The task memo defines the deliverable, the audience, and the tone. Read it twice before touching the File.
• The Library supplies the authority hierarchy; distinguish binding from persuasive sources.
• Objective memoranda, persuasive briefs, and client letters each have a different required structure.
• Time allocation is graded indirectly: an unfinished document loses points no matter how good the analysis is.

• Build a fixed 90-minute timing plan and rehearse it on released tasks.
• Keep templates for each deliverable type so format decisions cost no exam time.
• Practise extracting facts into the document structure before writing prose.
